Millennium Eye Care Notifies Patients of Computer Attack

FREEHOLD, NJ – January 13, 2022 – Millennium Eye Care (“MEC”) was the target of a computer attack that resulted in some individuals’ personal information being accessed. In an abundance of caution, MEC has taken steps to notify all potentially affected individuals and to provide resources to assist them.

We recently discovered that we were the target of a sophisticated computer attack. The attacker gained access to our IT systems, holding those systems hostage with the goal of extorting money to prevent their disclosure of information. We took immediate action to isolate the attack, investigate, and secure our IT environment. We also reported the attack to law enforcement.

On November 15, 2021, we discovered that the attackers exfiltrated some data which included, among other things, personal information of a limited number of patients including names, addresses, and procedure lists. For a very small number of patients, dates of birth may also have been included. Social Security numbers and financial information were not accessed and remain secure. If you would like more information about specific information that was identified, you can request that information by calling the number below.

We take the security of your information seriously and have taken measures to reduce the likelihood of a future cyber- attack, including increased network security measures and additional employee training to recognize external attacks to meet the continually evolving cyber threat.

We have mailed notice to those individuals potentially impacted by this incident which includes information about the incident and steps individuals can take to monitor and protect their personal information. Additionally, we have also established a toll-free call center to answer questions about the incident and related concerns. The call center is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be reached at 833-381-2284.

How do I obtain a copy of my credit report?

You can obtain a copy of your credit report, free of charge, directly from each of the three nationwide credit reporting agencies. To order your credit report, free of charge once every 12 months, please visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll free at 1-877-322-8228. Contact information for the three nationwide credit reporting agencies is included in the e-mail received by affected customers and is also listed at the bottom of this page.

How do I put a fraud alert on my account?

You may consider placing a fraud alert on your credit report. This fraud alert statement informs creditors as to possible fraudulent activity within your report and requests that your creditor contact you prior to establishing any accounts in your name. To place a fraud alert on your credit report, contact Equifax, Experian or TransUnion and follow the Fraud Victims instructions. To place a fraud alert on your credit accounts, contact your financial institution or credit provider.
