General Ophthalmologists

Roman G. Kernitsky, MD, FACS

Dr. Kernitsky is a board-certified ophthalmologist, who practices medical and surgical ophthalmology, and specializes in small incision cataract surgery and laser surgery.

A cum laude graduate of Columbia University and New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Kernitsky completed an internship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, and an ophthalmology residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Bronx, NY. He also served as a lieutenant commander with the U.S. Public Health Service and was assigned to Herman Kiefer Hospital, Detroit.

Dr. Kernitsky is an assistant clinical professor of surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has published articles in his field in the American Journal of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Kernitsky is a member of the attending staff at CentraState Medical Center.

Dr. Kernitsky is married to Lydia Kernitsky, who is a dentist They are the parents of two boys, Alex and Andrew. Dr. and Mrs. Kernitsky have been residents of Colts Neck for the past 20 years, and Dr. Kernitsky has been a member of the Lions Club for over 20 years.

Edward H. Brenner, MD, FACS

Dr. Brenner is a board-certified ophthalmologist who concentrates on ophthalmic surgery, especially cataract and lens implantation procedures. He joined Millennium Eye Care in 1975.

A native of New York City, Dr. Brenner attended college and medical school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army where he completed an internship at Walter Reed General Hospital and a residency in ophthalmology at Letterman General Hospital and Army Medical Center in San Francisco.

Between his internship and residency. Dr. Brenner served in Vietnam as a battalion surgeon and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. During his final year in the Army Medical Corps, he was stationed at DeWitt Army Hospital, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, where he was assistant chief of ophthalmology and was on the teaching staff of the residency program at Walter Reed General Hospital.

Dr. Brenner is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Brenner is a clinical Associate Professor of Surgery in Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Dr. Brenner is on the attending staff at CentraState Medical Center.

Dr. Brenner is a resident of Jackson Township and is active in civic affairs. Dr. Brenner was a member of the Exchange Club of Western Monmouth and is a past president of that organization, as well as a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club. He was a member of the Freehold Board of Health. Dr. Brenner has also served as district chairman for the Boy Scouts of America.

Jeffrey S. Brottman, MD, FACS

Dr. Brottman practices medical and surgical ophthalmology. He performs no stitch cataract surgery with lens implantation, micro surgical eye care, and laser surgery. Dr. Brottman also performs general eye exams and prescribes glasses for adults and children.

A native of New Jersey, Dr. Brottman was educated at Colgate University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society. He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed an internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Brottman completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester in new York State.

Dr. Brottman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He is a member of the Department of Ophthalmology at CentraState Medical Center.

Dr. Brottman currently resides in Freehold with his wife Shelly.

 

Scott S. Aksman, MD, FACS

Dr. Aksman is a board-certified ophthalmologist who, after 30 years of surgical practice, is no longer performing intraocular surgery. He is now providing medical treatment of eye diseases, consultations and second opinions.

Dr. Aksman earned a degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School.

Dr. Aksman's post-graduate training was at Temple University Hospital, where he completed a general internship, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City, where he was a resident in ophthalmology. Prior to joining the practice in 1975, he was a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and chief of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat service at Patterson Army Hospital.

Dr. Aksman is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He also was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Mu national honor societies, serves on the attending staff at CentraState Medical Center.

Dr. Aksman is an avid skier, golfer, and runner. He has two grown children.
